As willing participants of this generation, my husband and I could be considered very typical Baby Boomers. We're active and have very specific life needs that Sacramento willingly affords. We experience approximately 285 days of sunshine per year, with approximately 17" of rainfall,  and our average  humidity is a low 46%.  Hot summer days often give way to a cool delta breeze that makes life outdoors after sunset a pleasant experience.

What's a city without a pulse? Sacramento has a right to lay claim to being one of the biggest small cities in the country. What we find so appealing is that we can make a last minute decision to go to our favorite restaurant downtown and be seated within 15 minutes of departure.  Old Town is a treat and we often find ourselves visiting on a nice quiet Sunday. Sacramento has a historical flair that rivals San Francisco on much smaller scale. From gold rush era Victorians, to the tree-lined streets of the Fabulous 40's and Land Park, to Lincoln's 55+ Del Webb community, Sacramento's widely diversified communities offer the active senior convenient and relevant amenities that are easily within reach. Opera, concerts, fine restaurants, and theatre are all available to  local residents. That's probably why the greater Sacramento area was chosen in 2004 as one of the top 5 most livable areas by "America's Most Livable Communities".

Recreational Opportunities

Today's active retirees will find Sacramento a haven for all types of recreational activity. Summer pastimes include boating on the Sacramento and American Rivers, Golf, Tennis, Fishing, Hiking, Bird and Nature Watching, Cycling, Offroading, River Rafting, Water Skiing, and just about everything "outdoor" one can imagine. Sacramento is within an hour of great snow skiing at local Sierra resorts, and Reno is just a couple hours away.
